Georgian IT Innovation Conference 2009 Opens in TbilisiU.S. Ambassador to Georgia John R. Bass and Prime Minister of Georgia Nika Gilauri opened the 2009 Georgia Information Technology (IT) Innovation Conference on October 29, 2009. The Ambassador was joined by representatives from the governments of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The conference took place on October 29th and 30th at the Sheraton Metechi Palace. The second annual Regional Information Technology Conference has been initiated by ICT Business Council of Georgia and the State Commission of E-Governance Development of Georgia. The major objective of the conference is to establish and promote effective partnerships among the public and the private sectors, associations and other IT&T industry related organizations in the Central and East Europe, Baltic States, Caucasus and Middle Asia region to promote innovation and competitiveness. Development in the IT sector makes a distinct impact on the nation. Georgia, like all countries in the region is in the emerging state of e-era. Potential support, technical advice and plans for strengthening the financial structure are fundamental necessities for a successful e-Georgia and next e-Caucasus, e-Region. Fast processing mechanism, one-window-payment system, distance-learning, e-business help transparent administration and economic development of people. Leading tracks of the conference are Intellectual Property Rights as a major concern for creators, developers, manufacturers, and producers of IT goods and materials; E-Governance, Cyber Security, Regional Telecommunication Market Development, Connectivity, Policy Development, Capacity Building, and Socio-economic implications of ITs. The conference concluded with an award ceremony honoring efforts in the public and private sector to introduce and implement best practices that further develop the ICT sector in the region. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Microsoft Corp. and Hewlett-Packard have partnered with the Information and Computer Technology (ICT) Business Council of Georgia and State Commission of E-Governance Development of Georgia to host the event. MagiCom and Next Generation Technologies are sponsoring the conference.
