Vision

The SME Support Project is ready to work with and support those who show a willingness and ability to invigorate the business climate in this country, press for more changes ahead and promote a positive change in the way people regard and value entrepreneurship in this country. This will create new employment opportunities for the people of Georgia and prosperity for the country.

Who We Are

The SME Support Project is an IESC implemented four-year USAID program that supports the growth and development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Georgia. The Project plans to strengthen the public-private dialogue to improve the business climate for SMEs in Georgia and jointly resolve the issues impeding robust economic growth.

What We Do

In order for Georgia to reap real economic benefits from a thriving SME and rural business sector, the country needs to take steps to improve the business climate, build a strong entrepreneurial culture, and continually improve quality standards within the business community. In this realm, the mandate of the Project is to increase the rate of development and growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and to create new jobs for the Georgian citizens. With this aim in view, the Project is focused on the following initiatives:

  • Increasing access to finance for SMEs through USAID’s Development Credit Authority (DCA) and developing other solutions for lenders;
  • Setting up the Georgian Bank Training Center;
  • Assistance to NBG in developing a Reserve Requirements Strategy that may lead to additional funds available for the SME sector;
  • Strengthening MFIs to provide important and needed services to small businesses;
  • Technical assistance and training for financial institutions and SME/agribusiness borrowers;
  • Developing Business Consulting Network Georgia for SMEs in Tbilisi and regions to strengthen their capacity and encourage their expansion;
  • Diversified assistance aimed at sustainable tourism development in Georgia;
  • Promoting public-private dialogue;
  • Assistance to Business Associations, Educational Organizations, and Other Institutions to Support Expanded Skills and Entrepreneurship.
