Grants Program

The SME Support Project, through its competitive and non-competitive grants program, supports a wide range of projects aimed at increasing the rate of development and growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and creating new job opportunities for the Georgian citizens.

The central purpose of the SME Support Project’s Competitive Grants Program (CGP) is to provide competitive opportunities for eligible organizations with major interests in the business sector to participate in achieving the goals of private sector development by undertaking projects that fall within the overall scope and/or support the Project’s mainstream goals and objectives to increase the rate of development and growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and create new job opportunities for the Georgian citizens. Successful applications will address specific issues, be results-oriented, and be self-contained.

Competitive Grants Program:

Since inception in 2006, five rounds of competitive grants program have been announced and 25 projects have been awarded. Grants have been made to Tbilisi-based and regional organizations to build their capacity and achieve sustainable results in the following areas: enhancing the competitiveness of regional SMEs in general or SMEs in specific sectors, tourism infrastructure development, and support to agriculture sector development, promoting public-private partnership, increasing of competitiveness of SMEs and access to regional and international markets.

Open-Door Grants Program:

It is SME Support Project’s intent to fund innovative projects that fall within the Project’s general mandate and can produce the highest degree of measurable benefits to the Project’s goals and objectives on a non-competitive basis in case a program activity may only be available from one source and the proposal would reflect a unique or innovative concept or demonstrate a unique capability; and/or there is a compelling urgency either determined by IESC or USAID which precludes a full and open competition to avoid financial or programmatic delays; and/or when a particular award(s) is necessary to secure essential programmatic capability.
